Lukas Schneeweiss works precisely with the painterly qualities of material and thereby creates works of urgent visual value. The viewer encounters simple forms based on calculated orderliness. Schneeweiss' recourse to typography stems from a poetically lyrical root, which, however, never slides into the intrusive narrative, but leads into the absurd. Concentrated, the aesthete draws from a broad oeuvre, in which the subjective transformation of memories, sensations, relationships and found objects is an essential driving force. Rather than repeating or reissuing art-historical precursors of American art since the 1960s, Lukas Schneeweiss's works redirect the formal aesthetic syntax of pop, minimal art, or conceptual art that is both textually and thought-provoking, but which has little to do with their theories. The restraint and sensitivity inscribed in Schneeweiss' works breaks up the sobriety of her conceptually formulated set of rules. "Keep it simple and surprising."
